Skincare | Eat your Spinach!

I'm Popeye the Sailor man! I'm strong to the finish, cos I eat me Spinach! I'm Popeye the Sailor man!
I don't know about kids today, but when I was one, Popeye was on my favorite list of cartoons! I was always amazed at how those muscles popped when he ate his spinach. But as is the case with many children, I didn't like spinach and that is precisely why I was super excited when a 'popeye milkshake' came out. I couldn't wait to get it! I honestly thought that it was going to make me get instant muscles. Why I wanted muscles though is beyond me at this time lol! Of course, I was disappointed when I kept my eyes on my arms as I was drinking it, and nothing happened. That's when my folks grabbed the opportunity and convinced me that I had to eat spinach if I really wanted those muscles.

Popeye sent a really good message across to kids because spinach is considered as a SUPER FOOD and rightfully so. It is great for health and beauty and everyone must try to incorporate it in their diets. It's best eaten raw so many have turned to making it into a smoothie for consumption. I will list a few recipes below, but first, here's a breakdown of the many nutrients it contains:

  • Vitamin E - We all know that this is good for your skin, but to elaborate, this nutrient slows down the aging process and gives skin a smooth feel and glow!
  • Vitamin C - Maintains the body's collagen and elastin structure, giving skin a supple feel.
  • Vitamin K - Fights osteoporosis by anchoring calcium in your bones, keeping it strong and healthy.
  • Beta-carotene - This is an anti-inflammatory and repairs damaged tissue while also removing toxins. As an anti-inflammatory, it also aids in minimizing psoriasis by reducing the raised redness. It also contains folate which is vital in DNA repair.
Off the topic of beauty, Spinach is also known to help combat cancer. Read more about this here.
